A decade of dedication at Ventós

In this interview we will learn a little about the most personal facet of our Sales Director for Ventos' subsidiary in Mexico, Eric Marcellín.

Eric MarcellínTell us your day-to-day tasks.
I have been working at Ventos for 11 years, since the early days of the subsidiary in Mexico. It has been a journey full of challenges and stories to tell. We started by distributing aromatic chemicals and essential oils through a bonded warehouse, then established ourselves in a small storage facility, and today we have a first-class facility of 2,000 m² with over 800 product references and more than 1,000 tons of stock on hand. This allows us to be one of the main suppliers of aromatic chemicals in Mexico. It has been rewarding to witness this evolution; there is a lot of hard work and many stories to remember behind this growth.

What sets Ventós apart in the market?
Our market knowledge, customer service, and product variety are key strengths. We have been distributing raw materials worldwide for over 100 years, always committed to sourcing the best raw materials and maintaining available stock to help our customers obtain top-quality materials as quickly as possible. Ventós is now a global company, and the information we share between headquarters and the various subsidiaries allows us to keep growing stronger.

What do you like most about your work?
It's a job that isn't systematic and constantly challenges you to stay informed about global situations. We operate in a complex geopolitical context, and our work requires us to stay up-to-date and continually learning in order to make the best decisions. Since I joined Ventos, each year brings events that affect us directly or indirectly, and we must be prepared to face them. This dynamism is what I enjoy most about my job.

Of the 3.000 products we have in stock, what is your favourite?
My favorite product to sell is Eugenol, because it requires staying closely attuned to the situation of Clove derivatives in Indonesia. But organoleptically, my favorite is Atlas Cedar; its woody, balsamic notes make this essential oil a fragrance in itself. I’ll always remember the first time I smelled it while presenting our plant-based products to one of our clients.

What smells transport you back to your childhood?
The smell of rain or wet earth takes me back to my childhood, when I used to go out and play with my sister and neighbors.

What is your ideal vacation destination? What would your perfect vacation be like?
I love the beaches of the Mexican Pacific; my ideal vacation would be with my family on a beach along the Oaxacan coast.

What is the main trait of your character?
I've always preferred listening over speaking, and I consider myself persistent, as challenges and the effort needed to achieve them motivate me.

What style of music do you listen to? Who is your favorite singer?
I'm quite open when it comes to music and enjoy many genres, but Oasis is my favorite band—they have songs I’ll never get tired of listening to.

What is your favorite pastime?
I am passionate about riding my motorcycle and exploring paths in nature; it's my best therapy. Discovering the world on two wheels is incredibly enriching because you can reach remote places and enjoy beautiful landscapes.

If a film director offered you to make a movie about your life, who would you like to play your character?
Robert De Niro for his versatility in his roles. He can be anything from a kind-hearted grandfather, the most loyal friend, to the best New York gangster or the most feared hitman.

Would you prefer to travel to the past or to the future?
I would prefer to travel to the past to relive special moments and let the future remain uncertain. If I travel to the future, I would be destined to know what will happen, and I wouldn’t want to know my fate... I prefer to live knowing that there is a world of possibilities.
