Patchouli oil is obtained by steam distillation of the dried leaves of the patchouli tree (Pogostemon cablin). It is an evergreen plant with soft and scented leaves. It is produced in large quantities, basically in Indonesia. The smell of patchouli is extremely complex: camphorated, earthy and woody, all at the same time.
